“Fairness” Is the Character Trait of the Month for January
January 6, 2009
I just wanted to share with you that fairness is the character trait of the month of January. Fairness means you need to treat others equally. During the month of January we will also have the opportunity to celebrate Martin Luther King Day. It was his hope and dream that we would live in a world where all people would be seen as equals. As you study fairness this month please also encourage your students to learn about Martin Luther, his personal character traits and what they can do to make the world a better place.
Activities and service learning ideas can be found on the web page under Service Learning at www.juliancharterschool.org/resources/service-learning/fairness/ . I would love to hear what your students are doing to develop their character and help the community. Please see below for a couple of great ideas from the web page!
Fairness activity and service learning project:
- Take your kids to visit a local courtroom and see how fairness plays a part in our judicial system.
- Review the food pyramid chart and research the eating habits of people from different countries. Share the information gained with school officials and help to develop healthy eating habits across the school so that students of all cultures and backgrounds have the knowledge of how healthy foods will benefit their bodies.
“Live so that when your children think of fairness and integrity, they think of you.” H. Jackson Brown Jr.
