Citizenship:
To do your part in helping others in and around your community, to take the time to get involved with community issues, to be respectful of others and treat them with honor and dignity.

Ways to be a good citizen:
- Be respectful of others and treat them well.
- Offer to volunteer to serve others in your neighborhood.
- Be responsible to yourself and others in your community.
- Follow the rules in your home and school.
Activities:
- Make a list of things you like about your community then make a list of improvements that you think would benefit your community.
- Look in the paper for local activities that you could participate in to help make your community a better place to live.
- Offer to help an elderly neighbor with yard work. This way you will get an opportunity to use your citizenship skills and beautify your neighborhood.
Service Learning Activities:
- Interview immigrants who came to live in America because they were looking for a better life. Create a brochure on citizenship based upon the information learned in your interviews and submit it to a local immigration agency.
- Paint a mural depicting your visions of citizenship and donate it to a local community center.
- Create a survey regarding an issue of citizenship in the community, tabulate your responses and share with your local city officials.
