“Understanding Shakespeare” Online Elluminate Workshop on September 25 at 2:00 P.M.

Have you ever read a line of Shakespeare and then wondered what on earth you just read? Then this workshop is for you! Attend a short workshop called “Understanding Shakespeare”. This workshop will give helpful hints for reading and comprehending Shakespeare. The workshop will be on Friday September 25th at 2pm and will last approximately 20 minutes. The workshop will be held via Elluminate so you can participate from home via the internet. Please email Mrs. Hartman for more information chartman@julianchaterschool.org. The workshop is open to all high school students but highly recommended for NCP and CP 12th grade English students.
Online AXES Writing Workshop for High School Students on Friday, September 4

Want to learn an easy yet effective way to write an essay? Come learn about the AXES technique and how it can help you write stronger essays. The focus for this workshop will be a response to literature essay, however the AXES technique can be used on all types of papers. While certain parts of the workshop will be geared towards the writing course, the workshop would be beneficial to any English student who is looking to improve their writing.
The session will be conducted entirely over the Internet via an Elluminate meeting room beginning at 2:00 p.m.. If you would like to attend, then please email Christy Hartman at chartman@juliancharterschool.org and she will provide you with the classroom link and instructions.

JCS Online To Be Unavailable August 26 & 27

We just received word that our online high school home study program, JCS Online, will be unavailable on Wednesday, August 26 & Thursday, August 27 as the Orange County Department of Education performs a maintenance upgrade on the system.
We expect the system to be fully functional on Friday morning and apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause you and your student.

Fall 2008 High School Home Study Final Exam Schedule

Final exams for home study students in grades 9-12 will be held from Thursday, January 8, 2009 through Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at various locations. JCS Online-Emailing Your Instructor in the New Course Email

The new mailbox in JCS Online brings all of your course email into one place. This can certainly make things easier to check email, but does bring with it changes that might make it a little bit more difficult to make sure you’re emailing the correct specialist in your course.
I’ve put together a very brief demonstration video that provides a short overview of how to email your instructor within JCS Online. Please be sure to have your speakers on so that you can hear the narration.

Course Email Outage Within JCS Online

OC Online/JCS Online is currently experiencing a course email outage that is affecting instructor ability to send emails within their courses. Students are also likely to be experiencing this same problem. The issue is related to the system upgrade which took place on Friday, October 3. The Orange County Department of Education is aware of the issue and is working to resolve the problem. In the meantime, be sure to check your course announcements as your instructors will be posting information related to assignments for the upcoming week.

JCS Online Tip: How to Confirm A Dropbox Assignment Was Actually Submitted

After you have submitted an assignment to a dropbox, you may want to go back and confirm your assignment was submitted. The fastest way to do this is to go to the dropbox that you were sending a file from. At the bottom, you will see your submission date and time along with the attachment you sent in.
Once your specialist grades the submission, you’ll also be able to see the points and comments on the same screen.

The Orange County Department of Education is upgrading and performing maintenance on JCS Online all day on Friday, September 19, 2008. The system will be unavailable during the upgrade and should be back online over the weekend.
We apologize for the downtime, but are confident you will enjoy the new features being introduced. Please plan accordingly for the downtime as you will be unable to access the system during this time.
JCS Online Quick Tip: How to Update Your Personal Information

Updating your personal information (spelling of name, email address, etc.) is very easy to accomplish in JCS Online/Angel.
The first thing you need to do is log in to your account. Once you are logged in, you’ll select the small wrench icon on the left side of your page.

Next, you’ll be taken to General Settings. You’ll now want to select Personal Information.
Once you are in the Personal Information page, you can make any updates you want with a few clicks of the mouse and keyboard!
Please note that although JCS Online is private, we do share the server space with nearly 5,000 students and teachers from all over southern California. When adding information, please exercise good online habits and don’t add sensitive personal information (where you live, birth date, etc.). It’s never a good idea to divulge this kind of information online for your own identity protection and for personal safety.
