California English Language Development Test (CELDT)
The CELDT is an English Language Proficiency test given to both new and identified students who have a primary language other than English spoken at home. The assessment includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing components aimed at assessing student proficiency levels. The score results are used for redesignation and help to determine the level of intervention that JCS will provide.
Annual Testing (AA)
CELDT Annual Assessment testing window runs from July through October. All previously identified English learners will need to be assessed unless they have been redesignated as English proficient.
Initial Identification (II)
Initial identification is the test completed on students who enter the public school system for the first time with a home language other than English. This initial test will help to determine if the student is an English learner and is available to give to students year round.
Redesignation
To be redesignated as English proficient, students need to reach these goals:
- Pass the CELDT exam
- Achieve a score of 325 or better on the English and mathematics section of the California STAR Tests (CSTs)
- Obtain a grade of C or better in both English and math classes
- Receive teacher approval
