What should be brought to the testing site on the day of the exam?

  • Picture ID: If your student does not have an ID, they must have their parent show a form of identification instead
  • Book to Read: To provide an activity if they finish early
  • Change for Public Phone or a Cell phone: To call for a ride when finished
  • Snack: There will not be any snacks provided for this test
  • Drink in a Closed Container: To avoid a messy spill

Is the test timed? The test is NOT timed. Students will finish both earlier and possibly later than the scheduled time. Please plan for this! If the student finishes early, it would be a good idea to have someone available that they can call to pick them up.

What materials should my student bring?

Julian Charter School will provide all necessary materials to take the examination. Reference books, calculators, rulers, etc. are not allowed to be used on this test. Please do not bring any of those materials to the testing site.

What if we arrive late to the testing site?

Please arrive before the starting time listed on the registration form. Any student who arrives more that 15 minutes late cannot be allowed to enter the testing room.

What are the drop-off and pick-up procedures?

Even though the CAHSEE tests our more mature students, it remains Julian Charter School’s responsibility to make sure that every student is accounted for. If your child does not have a valid form of identification, please remember to come into the testing room to sign your child in.

What does the test cover?

There are two content areas covered on this test. The first area is “English-Language Arts,” which is covered in two parts on Day 1. The second area is “Mathematics,” which is always covered in two parts on Day 2. The mathematics portion of the examination covers concepts through Algebra I.

For more details about the exact standards that are covered on the test, please visit the CDE’s CAHSEE Website.

Can we change the testing schedule (e.g., take Mathematics on Day 1, etc.)?

The state does not allow schools to alter the testing schedule. Even if a child finishes early, he/she cannot move into the Day 2 tests. In addition, if a child misses the Day 1 test, he/she is not allowed to make that test up on Day 2. In these circumstances, the student must wait until the next test administration.

What if my child passes only one of the two sections of the exam?

When a student passes one of the sections, he/she does not have to retake it. For the next testing administration, that student would only need to attend the session that he/she needs to pass. Once both portions have been passed, the student’s transcript will be updated to show that he/she has met the CAHSEE requirement for graduation.

How can I help my student pass the CAHSEE?

Julian Charter School has created a CAHSEE Intervention Plan that is to be used by all Educational Facilitators (EFs). This plan details specific interventions that will assist your student in preparing for the examination. Please speak to your EF about the details of this plan.
