Pine Valley Academy Student Wins Local Writing Contest!

May 13, 2009

James Goodrich, a Pine Valley Academy 9th grade student recently entered a piece of writing titled “The Sombrero Wearing Iguanas” from his Science & English class into the local newspaper, the Back Country Messenger. As it turns out, James won first place in the contest and second place was awarded to an adult. For winning the contest, James was awarded some prize money and had his writing published in the paper. James has teased his teacher Mrs. Hoody because she only gave him a 93% on the assignment.

The first half of his story was published last month and the second half of the story was printed in this month’s publication along with a brief article about James and his school. You can read the first half online at http://www.backcountrymessenger.com/Edition%20Files/2009/Apr09/BCM.APR.09final.pdf (see page 13). The second half of his story picks up in the May issue on page 14 and concludes on page 23. Congratulations James from all of us at Julian Charter School.
