PVA Students Visit San Diego Veteran’s Museum

February 23, 2010

On Tuesday, February 9th, twenty-three Pine Valley Academy 10th and 11th grade students visited the San Diego Veteran’s Museum and World Beat Center in Balboa Park. While visiting the museum, they heard a presentation from Stuart Hedley, a Pearl Harbor survivor, on his experiences on December 7, 1941. Mr. Hedley shared his stories as a sailor on board the USS West Virginia when the attack occurred. They also heard from Nino Martinez a Vietnam War Veteran on his experiences during the Vietnam War. Students were fascinated to learn from people who shared first account recollections about these events in American History. Later that day they participated in a drumming and dance lesson at the WorldBeat Cultural Center. Their instructor, Lamine Thiam from Senagal, engaged the students in this activity while sharing stories about Africa.
