Finish, Focus and Celebrate an Exciting Future!

This is the theme of our JCS Murrieta Middle School Academy Parent/Student Meeting on Tuesday at 1:30 PM in Hawk 1 and 2. Meeting will last one hour.

We encourage all academy parents and students to attend. Students will have Visual Performing Arts on Friday instead of Tuesday in order to attend this event.

You will have the opportunity to meet Elena Hanley, Sites Counselor for Julian Charter School, to get you thinking about High School options for next year.

In addition we will discuss some of the 8th grade student preferences for their end of year celebration and solicit parent feedback, approvals and help on planning commencement events.

If you are unable to attend, please call the office (951) 676-5715 to make an appointment with Dori Lengyel to add your input to 8th grade activities.

New 1:4 Homeschool Program in Encinitas

Julian Charter School is happy to introduce a new 1:4 program (one day on site – four days on home-study). This program specializes in personalized learning and meeting the needs of each child. The site program will be an enrichment day! The school day will be from 8:15 a.m.– 2:30 p.m. on Fridays. Classes will begin on January 29th.

The program will run for 16 weeks (Jan. 29-May-28). April 2nd is a holiday.

STAR Writing Online Tutorial for 7th Grade Students: February 17th

Julian Charter School will be holding a one hour, STAR writing online tutorial on February 17th, 2010 @ 10:00am. This online webinar will be held in an Elluminate classroom. We are encouraging 7th grade students to take advantage of this opportunity to review writing genres, the writing process and discuss what will take place during the STAR writing exam.

This webinar will be lead by Nancy McCabe, a K-8 Educational Facilitator at JCS who specializes in writing.

2010 FITNESSGRAM® Testing is Coming Soon!

That’s right students! It’s time again for FITNESSGRAM® testing across the three counties. All 5th, 7th, and 9th grade students enrolled in Julian Charter School are expected to complete the FITNESSGRAM®. Students will be assessed on a variety of physical fitness including push-ups, sit-ups, a PACER, and others. The test will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Please plan to arrive at your specific start time.

February 2010 California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) Information

The CAHSEE exam will be offered next month to 10th grade students. Additionally, all 11th grade, 12th grade and adult students who have not passed both sections of the CAHSEE should also be registered to take the exam. Please note that all students must pass the CAHSEE to graduate from high school

Save the Date! 6th Grade Camp Coming Up May 19-21, 2010

Julian Charter School’s 6th Grade Camp is fast approaching! We are returning to the YMCA’s Camp Surf, which is located about 10 miles from downtown San Diego, on Imperial Beach. This fun and educational experience is available to current Julian Charter School sixth graders free of charge.

6th Grade Camp is a great outdoor education experience you don’t want to miss: Students participate in classes focusing on our Earth science curriculum. Daytime classes focus on tides, the water cycle, ocean habitats and wildlife. Students also participate in archery, rock-wall climbing, and free-swim time at the beach. At night, the students and chaperones gather in the Pirate’s Cove for campfire songs, s’mores, and skits. Students are chaperoned by JCS teachers and volunteer parents, who work with the YMCA staff to ensure student safety.

If you are interested in attending, please carefully review the attached information and forms. In
order to reserve a spot for a 6th grade student, Julian Charter School must receive the completed
paperwork at the Murrieta Meeting Center by April 16, 2010.

Registration Now Open for the 6th Annual JCS San Diego Talent Show

Registration is now open! On Friday, February 26, Julian Charter School will be hosting the 6th annual San Diego County Talent Show. Over the years this has grown to be an exciting and fun-filled time for all. Students in kindergarten through 6th grade will be performing from 3:00-5:00 p.m., while middle school and high school students will be performing from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Please sign up your students early so that they can be a part of this experience. It’s not a competition. Rather, it’s a chance to show the world your talent be it singing, playing the guitar, piano, comedy, dance, etc.

The event will be located in the sanctuary at the College Covenant church on the site of the San Diego Learning Center and San Diego Academy.
