Coastal Curiosities “Torrey Trail Tromp” October 10, 2008

Come join us for Coastal Curiosities “Torrey Trail Tromp”
On Friday, October 10, you can join us in exploring the Torrey Pines State Reserve. We will meet at the Visitor Center at 9:00 a.m. and will take a few hours to hike and explore this coastal wonder.

JCS Online Tip: How to Confirm A Dropbox Assignment Was Actually Submitted

After you have submitted an assignment to a dropbox, you may want to go back and confirm your assignment was submitted. The fastest way to do this is to go to the dropbox that you were sending a file from. At the bottom, you will see your submission date and time along with the attachment you sent in.
Once your specialist grades the submission, you’ll also be able to see the points and comments on the same screen.

Homeschooled and Charter Tweens/Teens, ages 12-18. One non-homeschool guest per homeschooler is welcome.
Professional DJ Adam Paz will be returning to spin tunes for you in his awesome Captain Jack Sparrow costume! Refreshments will also be served.
Once again, we’ll have a costume contest, so be creative but please be tasteful! There will also be a donation contest! The teen who brings the most donated food/supply items will win a $25.00 Target gift card!

New Resource Center Hours

Beginning October 20, 2008 the Resource Center warehouse and Library will be closed on Fridays. The new hours will be Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Meeting Center will be open as usual.
Digital Scrapbooking Club Beginning September 26!

Have you thought about getting into digital scrapbooking, but do not know how or where to start? Here is an opportunity for you to learn the basics and create your own digital scrapbook to keep or give as a gift. Space is limited to ten student/parent enrollments.
Class Requirements: Please do not register for these classes unless you meet the requirements below.
- STUDENT & PARENT PARTICIPATION: Only JCS students, K-8, are invited to attend this class. Students must participate with a parent.
- TIME: Three classes will be held and your attendance at all three is a critical part of this class. If any of these days or times does not work for you, check back next semester for a second class opportunity. It will also require some time on your part in between our monthly meetings.
- Friday, September 26, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. @ Murrieta Meeting & Resource Center(MMRC)…YES! That’s THIS Friday!!!

COMPUTER WITH DIGITAL PHOTOS: Ideally you have a laptop you could bring with you to our class times. This way you can work on your project during our second meeting while we are there to answer questions and give you direct help.
FUNDS FOR PUBLISHING: If you have EMR funds available they may be used. We have a JCS vendor for our software program. Otherwise, you can expect to pay $30.00 to $50.00 for the cost of publishing your books (depending on the size and cover of your choice).

JCS High School Student Receives National Honor

The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) announced that Julian Charter School student Radhika Parashar from Moreno Valley, CA, has been selected for membership. The Society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved superior academic excellence. The announcement was made by NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.
“On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment that Radhika Parashar has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” said Mr. Nobel. “Radhika Parashar is now a member of a unique community of scholars — a community that represents our very best hope for the future.”

JCS Flag Football - 2008 Season

The Julian Charter School Intramural Athletic League will begin its second year with flag football games starting the first week in October. The varsity (high school) program will consist of teams from San Diego, Murrieta, Alpine, and Pine Valley. The junior varsity (middle school) will consist of two teams form San Diego.
